Queens native Teddy Santis founded his lifestyle brand Aimé Leon Dore in 2014, inspired by the effortlessly cool streetwear he saw growing up in New York City while immersed in hip-hop and basketball culture in the 1990s. Known for versions of old-school streetwear classics like tracksuits and 5-paneled caps, the Aimé Leon Dore brand brought a new elegance to the streetwear category, while maintaining a deep understanding of the city and its roots.

The Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 “Navy” was designed by Teddy Santis in collaboration with New Balance. The model was released in October of 2020 as part of a capsule collection under the tagline "International Friendship Through Basketball." Featuring a classic smooth white leather upper with navy blue accents, the shoe is reminiscent of the 1990s styles that inspire much of Santis' design sensibilities. The right heel shows a graphic of an apple-shaped basketball, in homage to Santis' "Big Apple" hometown, New York City.
